About Me, Child Car Seats, and This Web Site

My name is Jerry and I live in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California. I decided a few years ago I wanted to have the freedom from a job to enjoy living here and that’s when I decided to make a change in my life. If it’s okay, let me give you some background.

Time for a Change

I was a teacher for 15 years and in 2006 wanted to make a change. I worked for someone else but really had a desire to do my own thing.

Before getting into teaching I’d owned a few one man businesses and even though the work was hard I’d always enjoyed being my own boss. The question was did I really want to be tied down to a business and full time work again?

I live near my sons and grandson Stevie and wanted to spend more time with family and especially my grandson. The question was could I live on my meager retirement from teaching?

After retiring I looked online doing part time work such as tutoring and work related to education. I soon realized that I was ready for a complete change.

Time to be My Own Boss

I loved teaching but dealing with administrators, principals, head teachers etc. was the part that I’d had enough of. You know, dealing with “the boss”.

I spend a lot of time hiking and fishing with Stevie and had just bought a childs car seat to keep him safe in my car. I’m an analytical person and I really got into researching car seats before making the purchase.

I discovered that most of the information for childrens car seats online was pretty sketchy or totally sales oriented. I knew that there were people like me who really wanted straight up information based on the truth.

Childrens car seats are a serious investment because it’s all about keeping your kids safe and secure. I wanted the best and safest seat I could find for Stevie.

I finally made my purchase and felt that I’d become pretty knowledgeable about car seats. I definitely could tell the good from the bad.

Inspiration Came My Way

At about the same time I was talking to a friend of mine who was also a retired teacher. I asked him what he was doing and he told me he’d built a website on traveling in Ecuador where he had lived.

He said that he was making enough money from this site to make his house payment. He said he began the site a year and half ago and it was great because he was passionate about the subject and was making money too. I was really interested in the website idea and I knew a great subject to build a site about: car seats. The only problem was that I didn’t think I could do it.

The main reason I doubted my ability was that I wasn’t computer savvy or technical in any way. I could browse around and get and send email but that was about it.

The Solution

Then my friend told me about SBI or Site Build It. They are all about helping you to turn your passion, hobby or knowledge into a successful business online.

What I learned from SBI was that any passion or skill can become a moneymaker with the right website. My car seats website was built with SBI by a total non-techie 63 year old guy(me) which only goes to show that it can be done by anyone.

Uncertainty to Opportunity

My life was shifting from uncertainty to great opportunity. I found out that I didn’t need any web design or programming ability, an existing business or a product. I started the carseats-reviews website in January 2011 and it’s growing in traffic every month. I enjoy writing about something that helps people and that also helps with my retirement.

I've found that an online business through SBI can give people enjoyment, satisfaction, financial freedom and an opportunity to quit their day job.

I’ve received a number of emails from people saying that they find what I’m doing inspiring, especially at my age. I respond that they can do it too.
