The Britax Boulevard Car Seat: 70 CS or no CS?

The Britax Boulevard car seat is a great car seat. It’s one of the best convertible car seats on the market and maybe the best.

Britax makes car seats that are solid, safe and comfortable. The U.S. government requires certain safety minimums but Britax goes beyond those standards.

So what is the deal with the Britax Boulevard 70 CS? This seat is a convertible seat which means that it’s rear facing from a child’s weight of 5 pounds or newborn to 40 pounds. It’s then turned to face forward until your child weighs approximately 70 pounds.

These are important numbers. Having a youngster in a rear facing seat until 40 pounds increases the child’s safety. Children are safer and less likely to incur head, neck and spinal injury when facing the rear.

It’s also a good thing because you don’t have to replace your seat for a long time. Newborn to 70 pounds is quite a few years.

That’s what the 70 stands for in the name Britax Boulevard 70 CS. 70 pounds. But what about the CS?

CS stands for what the Britax company calls “click and safe”. What this means is that as you tighten the harness straps you will hear a click noise when the tightness is correct.

The idea of the CS is that it lets you know about correct snugness rather than letting you guess. I think it’s nice for peace of mind because it’s hard to be sure as to whether your child is strapped in correctly and this feature helps.

There are those owners who don’t think it makes much difference or say that it doesn’t work right. I’ve had good luck with it and think it’s a nice addition.

The Britax Boulevard 70 CS is selling for about $10 more than the regular Boulevard 70 on Amazon. There's a detailed review here for more information on this seat.
